Refined petroleum contaminated predominantly southern Indian state of Goa, near Colva.
The Managing Partner of the Portal goa.su Anne Coast, who is currently in the northern part of the resort, said this over the telephone to RIA Novosti.
Local authorities had to to send more than 200 workers to clear the coast from tar balls that are thrown by waves on the shore, polluting beaches.
“Now it is not the best weather to go to the beach, there are few tourists, we go there also seldom.
This morning a local radio reported about what happened, but on our coast, as well as in areas of Anjuna and Baga Beach, everything is fine for now”, – said the Coast.
“Judging by how the local press reacts to the spill, the big panic is not felt.
We all understand that it is 2 more months till the high season and by that time, the beaches will have been clean” – she said.
Every year Goa is visited by at least 2.5 million tourists, mainly from Britain, Israel and Russia.
Tarry balls were found on the beaches in the beginning of the week.
Usually, such contamination occurs if the sea off the coast someone were merged oil.
If oil products were poured off by someone into the sea near the coast.
Such tar balls sometimes appear on the beaches of Goa due to wind and waves during the rainy season.
However the pollution has been particularly strong this year.
According to the Tourism Association of Goa, tourist services have been working around the clock, trying to find a way out, for the past 48 hours.
State authorities fear that the pollution of beaches can lead to a slowdown of tourists visiting the “Paradise State” of India.
According to the representative of the association Diana Braganza, experts are studying the collected samples to determine their origin.
Local authorities will make every effort to completely clear the sea-shore of the resort state from pollution during the week.
